September scent!

Well, babycakes...
my supplies are finally on their way to my home and should be here by the weekend!

I will begin making and shipping more Babycakes by the middle of next week (barring any unforeseen drama... like the humidity that plagued my whipped yumminess last month!)

As for a scent for September, it's been a tough call! The recent scents have been popular and many folks are asking for a repeat from a recent month...

So September will again be the Mint Blend!
It's a lovely combination of Spearmint, Peppermint and a touch of rosemary and tea tree!
It's my personal favorite for my own use (after shower, before bed, by the sink in the kitchen).

Unscented/Natural is ALWAYS available and competes with the mint blend for the #1 seller!

Thank you all for your patience as I have struggled to fill orders recently!
Our lives will (hopefully) settle down now that school is well in session and almost everything that moves in our house has been broken and repaired recently! :)

As a side note, business related, after having kept track of my cost for ingredients and shipping, shipping supplies, cost of jars etc... I have realized that my actual proceeds from the time I put into creating my babycakes isn't quite what I need for it to be in order to make it worth the time I spend away from my family. I have increased the price slightly to cover increased costs, and I hope that does not deter anyone from ordering -but totally understand if so and I apologize that I am unable to offer it for a lower cost. The ingredients could be cheaper if I were willing to go with conventional oils and butters instead of organic, fair-trade... but I want to be sure I am using the highest quality ingredients available for my own babycakes, and for yours!

Blessings to all my sweet supportive babycakes friends...
I'm so thankful for your kind words, re-orders and referrals!

Two parts to the hair issue

Hello babycakes friends!
This is for my friends with sweet brown babies, or those waiting to bring them home...
there are two distinct different issues to deal with when caring for kinky, curly hair.
Moisture and Detangling.

Do not confuse the two.
They are not the same issue.

Moisturizers add moisture (well, duh...), add necessary oils back to the hair and help keep the hair healthy so that it breaks less.
Detanglers are purely to help you get knots out, part hair for styles, and comb through to smooth it while detangling for styles.

Many times I hear friends say that their babycakes isn't doing anything to get tangles out.
Well, it isn't supposed to! It's for moisture. It helps heal dry hair cuticles, helps keep the scalp moisturized and contains specific butters and oils that repair damaged cells and tissues.

I am working on a detangler and once I get it to the place where it's a truly great product and not just "good for all-natural"... it will debut on this site!

Until then, I use the intense conditioner found in the boxes of hair coloring packages as a detangler in a pinch. It works great on my daughter with the tightest curl that is the most easily tangled up. I use a deep conditioner and let it sit, then rinse it out and use cheap conditioner and water to help comb through the hair. You will use WAY more than you ever would think is necessary for conditioner. It's okay... don't worry! :)

I use my fingers to detangle before I ever pick up a comb or brush OR the tangle teezer.

Some tiny knots are caused by dead shed hair getting twisted around the ends of other healthy hair. If I can't pull these out I may snip off the ends of that hair to keep it from getting broken higher up, or pulling out at the root during combing.

Go slowly, take your time, and don't be afraid to do this in stages!
Add moisture before and after detangling and certainly before doing any kind of style!
Really slather on your babycakes to each section of hair when braiding - you will be amazed at how healthy the hair still looks once you take down the braids WEEKS later!

Don't be afraid to ask for help! Leave a comment here, go over to Happy Girl Hair and read up on techniques or join a facebook page like Chocolate Hair/ Vanilla Care and ask some questions.

September scent coming soon...
still waiting on my ingredients to arrive at casa de babycakes!
I think I have a scent chosen, but if you have a preference - please leave a comment!
